FAQ

Scenewrite Frequently Asked Questions.

Why use Scenewrite?

No doubt you know that there are dozens of desktop screenwriting programs out there and a handful of online screenwriting services like Scenewrite. Most of them them are excellent and many have been around for years. We particularly like/liked Celtx, Montage, Sophocles (RIP) and Zhura. Scenewrite does things slightly differently:

Is this some sort of script harvesting site?

No. You own your script. Scenewrite simply stores it online so you can access it from anywhere at anytime. Scenewrite assumes no copyright over any part of your script.

Is my script accessible to anyone else?

Scenewrite is not a script promotion or marketing site - there are plenty of those on the Internet. Your script is only accessible to you, the script owner, and any partners you opt to share your script with via the Scenewrite My Partners function. Of course if you let other people know your login and password then they can also access your script. For that reason, we specifically request you don't share you login with anyone in our site terms.

Can I import an existing script?

No. Scenewrite doesn't yet support importing a script. We recommend you start by using Scenewrite to write a new, short script to see if you like it.

Can I export a script?

Yes. Scenewrite supports exporting your script to text and PDF file formats.

Could Scenewrite lose my script?

Of course it's possible that Scenewrite could 'lose' your script, just as it's possible that any screenwriting program - online or on your desktop - could. But it's unlikely. However, like any responsible service provider we recommend that after every scenewrite writing session you make a copy of your script to text and PDF files and download these files to your local PC. This is the purpose of the My Vault function - to create multiple versions of your script as you write it.

Who is behind Scenewrite?

Scenewrite was designed and is owned by Stewart McKie. I am currently a part-time PhD student at Royal Holloway College London researching screenplay analytics. This is my third screenwriting-related site. The first was Scriptcloud.com, the second was ScriptGeist.com. Scriptcloud has been largely merged into Scenewrite, whereas Scriptgeist continues as a separate site.

Will I get bombarded with lots of spam emails?

We hope not. We don't sell or rent your email address. The only reason we need it is to confirm your registration, send you lost passwords, and to keep you informed of stuff relating to the service delivery such as new features or changes.
